Mick and Christine Rosney, Russ and Lynette Harwood and past member John Hargreaves with his wife Dawn and son Sam, took part in the 6-mile ELMC sponsored walk on Sunday 25th July 2021. The weather played ball for a change and was not too hot, although sun cream and hats were required at times.
After leaving Hewlett Court the group headed down into Summerseat and on to Meadow View before cutting back to the River Irwell and on to Burrs Country Park for a breather and refreshments. Shortly after setting out again, they all resisted a stop at Jersey Girls Dairy Ice Cream Parlour and completed a short road section taking them to the start of the Kirklees Trail and on to the old railway line and over the viaduct at the Old Mill Pond. A little while later they passed Tottington St John's cricket ground where the home 3rd XI was taking on Woodbank Cricket Club 3rd XI.
Following another short road section, the group arrived back at Hewlett Court where refreshments and a BBQ were provided for all participants. Medals, certificates and goodie bags were presented to the walkers who had enjoyed a great atmosphere throughout the afternoon and back at the Hewlett Court BBQ. Everyone started to make their way home from 5pm onwards, with many asking for a repeat event next year.
